Abstract: Found all over the world (except in polar regions), the Asian Tiger Mosquito (Aedes albopictus) is both considered a nuisance and a danger to human health, because of its ability to transmit many dangerous diseases. Because this species thrives best in urban and domestic environments unadapting cities to Aedes albopictus can therefore be considered a reasonable vector control strategy. Nevertheless, our research suggests that many obstacles still prevent such a strategy from being effectively implemented. These obstacles are further exacerbated by paradoxes linked to conflicting aspiration, intentions, regulations and practices. As such, this communication addresses broader issues and paradoxes related to environmental challenges and administrative simplification, while our latest research considers how current standards can be simplified, bearing in mind that regulations are also useful tools for addressing ever-pressing health and environmental hazards in cities.
