Abstract: The concept of responsible innovation (RI) remains largely untranslated into the hospital sector, and the characteristics of its practices remain unclear. Although the concept of responsible innovation in healthcare (RIH) has been proposed mainly in Canada, its operationalisation in France remains vague. Both concepts emphasise social and environmental objectives and the important role played by stakeholders. To explore these two concepts, a qualitative study was conducted among 32 hospital executives. The results reveal multifaceted innovations, some of which are responsible (in terms of their process or objectives), and sometimes RIH, even if less representative. Despite a lack of legitimacy linked to their status, healthcare executives remain committed to these dynamics.
