Abstract:
Environmental economics plays a pivotal role in the real estate sector, significantly contributing to sustainable development and addressing pressing environmental concerns. The integration of environmental considerations into property valuation and decision-making processes has become increasingly important. Factors such as energy efficiency, green building certifications, and proximity to green spaces are now integral to real estate valuation, influencing property values and investment decisions. Recent studies highlight the growing trend of incorporating eco-friendly technologies and designs in real estate development, asset management, and facilities management. This shift aligns with global sustainability goals and responds to the increasing demand for environmentally conscious real estate from investors, tenants, and households. Despite these advancements, there remains a need for a deeper understanding of how environmental economics can further enhance the resilience and adaptability of real estate strategies, particularly in the face of climate change and its associated risks. This research topic aims to explore the multifaceted contributions of environmental economics to the real estate sector, with a focus on sustainable development, climate resilience, and the integration of environmental considerations into real estate practices. Key objectives include examining the impact of environmental factors on property valuation, understanding the role of incentive programs and public policies in promoting sustainable real estate practices, and assessing the effectiveness of various assessment methods. By addressing these objectives, the research seeks to provide valuable insights into how environmental economics can shape a more sustainable and environmentally conscious real estate industry. To gather further insights in the intersection of environmental economics and the real estate sector, we welcome articles addressing, but not limited to, the following themes: - The role of environmental considerations in property valuation and investment decisions. - The impact of eco-friendly technologies and designs on real estate development and management. - Climate-related risks and their implications for real estate strategies and decision-making. - The effectiveness of incentive programs and public policies in promoting sustainable real estate practices. - Assessment methods for integrating environmental and social considerations in real estate. - Global North-South perspectives on sustainable real estate development. - The influence of environmental economics on real estate portfolio management and facilities management.
