Abstract: This research examines the impact of templates in facilitated online creativity workshops through the lens of affordances. While templates structure and guide the creative process, their rigidity can also limit spontaneity and innovation. By combining interviews with experienced facilitators and observations of virtual workshops, this study aims to understand how these tools shape group dynamics, idea generation, and participant engagement. Preliminary findings suggest that workshop design should prioritize intention over tools, emphasizing the contextual adaptation of templates. The affordance-based analysis highlights multiple dimensions (functional, political, cognitive, conative) that influence template use in online settings. This research will contribute to refining facilitation practices and optimizing the design of tools that enhance collaborative creativity in virtual environments.
