Abstract: Farms in Mayotte must meet national and European requirements and cope with the constraints inherent in island economies. They correspond to a variety of forms, reflecting different levels of innovation and sustainability. Based on a survey conducted prior to the cyclone, we demonstrate that one in two gardens shows little inclination to innovate and is not very sustainable. The existence of an innovative and sustainable alternative garden is an avenue worth exploring for the reconstruction of Mayotte.
