Abstract:
This research examines the primary technological and oversight challenges associated with the potential introduction of state-sponsored electronic money, commonly referred to as central bank digital currency (CBDC). It specifically analyzes the drivers and prerequisites for adopting this type of monetary advancement, as well as the various frameworks for its deployment. Furthermore, the study evaluates the prospective impact of CBDC circulation on the stability of the financial sector and its overall influence on the execution of monetary policy. By doing so, the paper fills a critical void in current scholarship, which has largely concentrated on private-sector digital assets while often overlooking the unique risks and benefits inherent to a sovereign digital currency system.
