Abstract:
The dogma of intensive innovation is now coming up against the growing damage this race is causing to the natural environment, the obsolescence of skills, and a loss of meaning for employees. We must therefore innovate differently and rethink innovation by incorporating societal impacts. But why and how should we do this? The objective of this article is to propose a research agenda for management sciences to reshape the management of impact-driven innovation. First, we must understand how innovation is currently framed, the unconsidered implications of this framing, and the unintended consequences it causes. Second, we aim to study and theorize the diverse practices of responsible, impact-driven innovation, while proposing an integrative framework. Finally, we outline avenues for changing the cognitive frameworks of impact-driven innovation, namely by adopting a projective responsibility approach, rethinking managerial tools, and ensuring consistency in public policies.
