Abstract: This exploratory research investigates the transformative role of the edu-metaverse in relation to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) principles. Based on a qualitative analysis of 17 student interviews, the study examines how this immersive virtual environment can transform educational experiences. The findings uncover four main categories of benefits: social integration (facilitated collaboration), personal integration (enhanced self-expression through avatars), cognitive benefits (improved understanding via immersion), and hedonic benefits (more enjoyable learning). The research highlights the critical role of avatars and the Proteus effect in reducing social anxiety and fostering a sense of belonging. It concludes that intentionally designing the edu-metaverse around DEI principles amplifies these perceived benefits and is a key lever for creating truly inclusive, engaging, and equitable learning environments. The study offers theoretical contributions and practical implications for educators and institutions.
