Abstract: Public transport, mobile telephony networks and nomadism: the revolution of NTIC at the service of public transport renewal. – Mobility is an essential stake in our daily life, above all in urban environment. It is defined by a series of trips from one place to another, which give rhythm to our lives and constitute our "daily grind". The rise of mobile phone telephony, high rate networks (UMTS), Internet, pocket organisers and other personnel digital assistants (PDA), pocket computers or laptop computers considerably enhances the contents of this mobility. Public transport mobility periods thus offer an undeniable advantage compared to individual cars: they offer more or less long periods of availability where the attention is not focused on... traffic and driving: indeed, can we not take advantage of the free time offered by public transport to work, learn and train? The problem of our analysis is thus based on the idea that the main contribution of new information and communication technologies and their electronic and mobile media consists in a clear rise of the use of public transport compared to that of cars. For the same amount of time spent travelling, the productivity of someone using public transport is globally higher than that of someone travelling by car for instance. This mobility becomes a service mobility and is strongly enhanced by informational contents. It is the framework and support of new types of informational proximity. Mobility must no longer be seen as a mere characteristic of urban life – it is now a way of life, a cultural and social reference referred to as "nomadism". Besides, many mobile telephony operators have also used this slogan in their marketing campaigns, which has imposed itself as a strong symbol of modernity.
