Abstract: Socio-economic evaluation of Seine-Nord Europe canal project. – The socio-economic evaluation results of the Sine-Nord Europe canal project have been the basic of the Minister of Transport's decision to approve the preliminary project and to launch the investigation prior to the statement of public utilities in January. This evaluation was carried out by a European consortium of research departments, under the control of an economic committee organised by VNF (French waterways establishment); the results of these works that lasted two years were submitted to an interdepartmental commission set up by CGPC (Conseil Général des Ponts et Chaussées). This article reveals the main stages of the work carried out (scenario formulation, traffic forecasting, calculation of socio-economic profitability) and their results.----------------------------------------------With the author and the publisher of the copyright agreement.
