Abstract: This paper argues for the interest of gravity accessibility index associated to GIS in economic assessment. In a first part the article proves that gravity accessibility indicators are consistent with the Surplus Theory. Then gravity accessibility calculations are made on Strasbourg area before and after tram lines implementations. These calculations underline both the possibility to take into account the population heterogeneity with a semi-disaggregated analysis and the possibility to consider a detailed zonal approach with an appropriated GIS. Cartographic illustrations of results underline that GIS are interesting tolls to take public decisions.
