Abstract:
This chapter reviews some of the new developements of economic theory concerning the effects of trade on international security in the context of globalization. It shows firts that multilateralization of trade (one aspect of globalization) weakens the liberal case of peace by trade (the Montesquieu) doctrine of "doux commerce"). Then, we examine the integration effects of trade (another aspect of globalization) on security and we suggest that their contribution to peace is not clear cut one : international integration could forsters peace in the long run, but promote war in the short run.
