Abstract:
The world of wine has undergone a radical transformation: from an artisan's craft to an industrial product, just as in the case for countless other sectors of agro- alimentation. A new model for viticulture is currently being put in place which cannot be inscribed into the reductive duality of old vs. new world. Concentrating on varietals wines for reasons of uniformity and standardization, as proposed by powerful multinational firms, this model has a profound impact on rules of the market. In fact, it is particularly offensive as it risks undermining ancient regulation devised by the International Organization of Vine and Wine (OIV) which founds itself in a cultural definition of wine.
