Abstract: When social and solidarity organizations change as they come under growing competition and their market share increases, most studies tend to assume that they go mainstream. We would like to show that these changes can also entail the emergence of a hybrid organizational and governance model in which the participatory aspect shifts from the users turned customers to the employees, as well as foster external partnerships. In this paper we test the hypothesis that a hybrid model belonging to the social and solidarity economy can be measured by the continuous ability to build the foundations for cooperative governance, develop management tools that serve the project and the quality of the work and service, and lastly develop strategic external partnerships. We support our argument with an analysis of a French social tourism group.
