Abstract: Although there exists numerous studies trying to connect Supply Chain Management (SCM) and the development of a competitive advantage, these studies are most of the time both incomplete and disparate. The purpose of this article is first to clarify the underlying dimensions of SCM (or SCM practices) and then to empirically test the relationship between SCM practices and performance, using a regression analysis. Thus this article tests the impact of 3 SCM practices on 8 different performance metrics, both financial and non financial. Our results show that SCM practices determine performance in different ways and at different levels, both considering the type of practices and the type of performance indicators used.
