Post-Print from HAL
Abstract:
This paper aims at analyzing the restructuring of the French pharmaceutical industry through Merger and Acquisition (M&A) and alliances. After having described some characteristics of the French pharmaceutical industry – notably, co-existence of big pharmaceutical groups and small family businesses, state policies on the health issues, research collaboration between public labs and pharma companies etc. -, we examine the concrete restructuring process in the three cases. Our purpose is to show how different agents play strategic games associated with their history rather than calculating the economic effectiveness of M&A.
