Abstract:
The Cotton Beltwide Conferences 2010 have provided a new vision of the consequences of about 15 years of widespread and non-coordinated use of transgenic cotton in the United States. The observation of the shift of pest complexes in one hand, and in the other hand the adaptation solutions being explored today show that the positive effects firstly claimed look like vanished illusions in the areas of pest control effectiveness, cost reduction, and antagonism between chemical and biotech means. The technical and economic sustainability of transgenic varieties lies on systemic and coordinated approach of their use.
