Abstract: A critical analysis of the theoretical frames in economics leads to develop an alternative approach of educational and vocational choices. This approach applies the existence of various charactéristics of education beyond the economic logic. The preference for some characteristics explains individual choices. This hypothesis is tested in a qualitative survey addressed to young people characterized by difficult school-to-work transition trajectories. The survey emphasizes various characteristics of educational goods and changes in preferences along school-to-work transitions.
