Abstract:
The purpose of the present paper is to show that the analytical core of Cournot's economics, especially his conception of wealth, his symmetrical theory of prices as well as his analysis of competition could lead to consider him as an author between classicism and marginalism. The argument is based, on one hand, on the consideration of the debates regarding those conceptions among Classical, and French liberals economists of the nineteenth century. On the other hand, as we shall see, the discussion refers to Cournot's methodology which appears to be closer to the Popper-Hempel-Oppenheim nomological deductive method than to J.S Mill's extended deductive one.
