Abstract:
The literature has paid limited attention to the legal dimension of management. We address this gap by investigating litigation success of firms in French labor courts. We hold that a firm's and its ad hoc lawyer's knowledge integration is crucial to litigation success. We find that the closeness of collaboration between the firm and its lawyer, which helps to integrate knowledge, predicts litigation success. The closeness of collaboration is even more important for specific cases. However, we find that having a legal department does not improve litigation success
