Abstract: Lead users play an important role in new product development. Their identification is crucial for companies that want to integrate them into the innovation process. At present, there is no consensus among researchers concerning the characteristics defining the lead user status and the concept basis. The purpose of this research is to compare the psychometric qualities of two lead user self-evaluation measures. The results show that the scale of Béji-Bécheur and Gollety (2007) reveals better psychometric properties (robustness, convergent validity)and practical aspects (parsimony, standardization, time of administration) compared to the scale of Franke, Von Hippel and Schreier (2007)
