Abstract:
We examine the role of an understudied group in post-merger and acquisition integration, namely union representatives. This exploratory study finds that union representatives can play an important role in the post-acquisition integration process by 1) taking on informal cross-organizational roles through their union network, spanning the acquiring firm and target firm, 2) performing mobilizing actions to facilitate task integration in the management/union relationship, and 3) mitigating employees' concerns to facilitate social integration in the relationship between unions and employees
