Abstract: Transport infrastructure pricing has long been the subject of discussions among lobbyists and analysts in Europe. The rest of the chapter is organised as follows: Section 2 recalls the doctrine of the European Commission. Section 3 gives an overview of alternative pricing doctrines in a selection of European countries. However, it is argued in Section 4 that economic theory is able to deal with these concerns and that therefore, alternative solutions are not called for. Furthermore, the situations where the most appropriate charges differ from SRMC are rather infrequent. These results are synthesised in the conclusion (Section 5).
