Abstract:
This paper reports on a management consulting intervention carried out in a national opera house. At the request of the management of this theatre, a team of hands-on researchers from ISEOR (Institute of Socioeconomics in Enterprises and Organisations) worked for almost three years at the home of one of the biggest French musical stages. The paper illustrates the change process undertaken through the MC intervention. It shows how progressively mindsets have been transformed, moving from a feeling of opposition between economic and artistic rationalities towards the understanding of conditions required to reconcile both logics of action. The case study also reports on how hindrances and difficulties in the consulting process were overcome. Outcomes and qualitative and financial results have also been assessed and show the relevance of approaches to MC which are designed to adapt to not for profit organizations.
