Abstract: The following text can be characterised as a report, in which the author tries to put together the main features and data on Latin American studies carried out in Poland. This study is based on the quantitative analysis of the PhD theses and postdoctoral works written between 1980 and 2007, and on a qualitative analysis that deals with the latest legal changes occurred in the realm of science and superior education.
