Abstract: This paper attempts to define the terms "economic" and "social", without losing sight of the inescapable economic problematics that social institutions face. It is based on the case of an institution for handicapped persons whose executive directors undertook to increase employee-awareness on the economic consequences of their activity, in an attempt to guarantee the establishment's survival. Lessons will be drawn from the case, which encourage a management approach that combines social and economic concerns.
