Abstract:
The present paper aims at monitoring the levels of employee information, comprehension, readiness and participation towards the organizational change, along the change implementation process. The investigation of these levels and their variations is likely to highlight the dynamic nature of employees' responses to change. A descriptive longitudinal study has been performed in a French industrial company which has implemented a major industrial maintenance project from 2009 to 2010. Surveys have been administered at four project milestones, on 15 production sites and to about 2000 employees each time. Scores for each attitude or behavior have then been established. Descriptive data show that the scores usually increase from the first to the last implementation stages. Yet, the readiness and participation scores, which show similar trends, can sometimes follow negative evolutions. All scores go beyond 55% at the third implementation stage. Except from the participation score, all scores are above 66% at the last implementation phase (called Go Live). The paper suggests that the monitoring of these four employees' attitudes and behaviors towards change can help better manage the change. Through the study ofa successful case, practitioners can also get useful insights into the typical levels and evolutions of attitudes and behaviors for each implementation stage.
