Abstract:
Theoretically, sustainable development voluntary standards, as market-based instruments, can generate perverse effects. They may even be the cause of market distortions encouraging productivism. Whereas production methods are regulated towards a sustainable model, standards do not include ideas of limits, balance or a territorial approach. In this paper, we will illustrate this theoretical intuition through the use of empirical case studies.
