Abstract:
This paper is devoted to the innovation issue in a particular group of services : arcchitectural or assembling services such as hostelry, large-scale retailing, hospitals, amusement parcs, etc. Architectural services are the result of the bundling of a various number of constituent services. In this paper we draw on some of the recent findings of the economics of services and of the economics of innovation in order to put forward a relatively simple framework for analysing architectural services output. In this framework the basic service function of the architectural service is embedded into a complex system of other services that make use of different types of technologies and competencies. This analytical framework is used to reveal the different organising principles driving innovation within these types of services.
