The economic change of down town
L'évolution économique des centres-villes

Abstract:
[While city centers are not only economic functions, their history is closely linked to them. The economy is an essential dimension of the city, both in the long period in which the principle of centrality dominates later when the city extends beyond its walls. Since at least the twentieth century, the development of economic activities in the city outskirts challenges the quasi economic monopoly of city centers and even exerts pressure that has brought fear a sort of economic implosion of city centers. But history has given the city centers a "soul", with its eternal appetite. Listening to this core, city authorities have undertaken a number of actions to promote a renaissance of city centers, including the economic aspect.]
