Abstract: A book on the effects of labour on the family, where one has looked beyond the traditional division betwen family research and labourmarket research has been passed. Ten years of intensive theoritical study and field work cost a new light on the relation between paid work and family life in the profit and nonprofit sectors, as well as on the way family circomstances influence careers. The main focus lies on the comparison of developments in France, with those of other countries.
