The Heterogeneity of Housing Elderly’s Profile

Abstract: The elderly represent a growing part of the population. In Wallonia, until now, the elderly housing conditions are considered comparing their state at home versus their state in retirement home, or comparing elderly housing conditions to those of the non-elderly. The objective of this paper is to shed light on the heterogeneity of housing elderly's profile within the elderly who stay at home in Wallonia. Multiple correspondence analyses are conducted using Walloon data (the Enquête sur la Qualité de l'Habitat / Housing Quality Survey 2012-2013, and the EU-SILC Belgium for Wallonia) in order to describe the various existing profiles. Focusing on Wallonia instead of Belgium as a whole appears relevant as, since the 1980s, housing issues are more and more moved from the federal government to the regional authority.
