Abstract: This present study, based on unseen archives, examines the long-term history of two Lyon-based cooperative worker production societies (SCOP) from an economic point of view, leaving aside political issues. To understand how these SCOP have lasted so long (80 and 133 years), we have analyzed their accounting, to find the way they operate. The sources of their success come mainly from the fact that they obtain municipal public contracts, and we present two illustrative cases : the first concerns the Association Typographique Lyonnaise (ATL), in the printing sector, and the se- cond, the Cooperative Workers' Production Company L'Avenir, with the construction of social housing (Part 2). Legislation, will be used as a framework of intelligibility (Part 1) to situate the access by the SCOP to these very specific markets that are public procurement.
