Abstract:
The purpose of the article is to analyze the territorial dynamics that characterizes the Soummam Valley in Algeria and to identify its main determinants through the Territorial Economic System approach. The study, which recalls the historical process of territorial construction of this region, is based on a field survey conducted with a sample of 47 agro-food companies located in the Soummam Valley. The analysis of the data from the field survey reveals four crucial factors that drive the dynamism and future of the agro-food Territorial Economic System in the Soummam Valley. These factors are: the geographical proximity, the family ties and territorial affiliation, the local regulation system and finally the international openness. As matter of conclusion, the article raises the question of the future of this evolving territory, whereas it is coping with major challenges which threaten its development.
