Abstract: The territory is a socialized space, that is to say adapted to the needs and uses of the human groups which occupied it, and therefore shaped to correspond to their way of life. In other words, socialized means organized. In this perspective, the social production of the territory covers all the material and symbolic processes (think of Lascaux), which help to strengthen the adaptation of space to the needs of the social groups that live there. This also implies guaranteeing the relative autonomy of the territory thus individualized in relation to other territories, which brings into play multiple relationships, both conflicts and cooperation, which themselves imply an effective proximity of individuals or social groups. The regulation of proximity relationships is therefore an essential driver of the territorialization process.
