Access to data, intra-platform coopetition, and inter-platform competition

Accès aux données, coopétition intra-plateforme et concurrence inter-plateformes numériques

Frédéric Marty

Post-Print from HAL

Abstract: The development of the platform economy is no longer limited to services provided to consumers but also concerns services provided to manufacturers. Data storage and processing services provided by cloud computing platforms echo the structuring of new productive processes such as industry 4.0 based on the digitization of activities and the development of the Internet of Things. This article questions the conditions for intra-platform coopetition and inter-platform competition, particularly in the light of the European regulations related to the protection of personal data, the protection of electronic communications, or the projects of large online platforms regulation. It insists on the impacts of remedies as data portability and system interoperability to address economic or technical dependence and competition-related issues.
