Abstract: By scrutinising the books of fairs and ledgers of the Salviati company in Lyon, and by comparing records from different periods (1524-25, 1549-50), the researcher investigated the activity of the company during and outside the fairs. The paper analysed the size of the company, the types of investments, the tools used for transactions (cash or bills of exchange) and the circulation of such credit
