Abstract:
The collective work Debt and Politics offers a collection of analyses of the economic stakes of politics in antiquity and today. In this perspective, debt is a particularly rich and fertile pattern. Indeed, various examples of ancient debts, which texts and archaeological remains allow us to study under several aspects, attest the strength of this economic phenomenon not only in the course of history, but also in ancient political and historical thinking. The ancient references to debt are also present in their considerable resonance, even in recent and contemporary contexts.
