Abstract: The building of a relative autonomy in Nicaragua's rural territories. A meso-economic understanding of peasant cooperativism Peasant cooperativism in Nicaragua is a structuring phenomenon of the rural world. It brings into tension forms and motives of resistance and adaptation that arise simultaneously in the face of the dominant orientations of social life. Using a meso-economic approach, this contribution highlights the main mechanisms of differentiation made possible by the organisation into cooperatives within a system structured on a national scale. This system constitutes an organisational base oriented towards the defence of a cooperative regime and contributes to shaping spaces of relative autonomy for its members and the rural communities in which they are committed.
