Abstract: As Italy has the potential to attract foreign investments due to its large market, diversified economy, strategic location and, most importantly, skilled workforce, this article focuses on the expectations of Generation Z employees in Italy and how multinational companies can empower them to maximise their investment. The article uses a qualitative approach and case study strategy to explain the career expectations of Generation Z employees and how managers can support their psychological empowerment. The study was conducted in the context of a Fortune 500 multinational company in the electronics sector in Italy, where empowerment is not formalised through company policies. The Generation Z employees who were interviewed prioritise fulfilling work that contributes to making a positive impact on the world, along with personal growth, over solely monetary rewards. Diversity and flexible work arrangements are valued, and work-life balance is seen as quality time for both work and personal life. Empowerment is viewed differently by individuals, with some valuing self-determination and others valuing competence. Feeling empowered leads to confidence and trust in one's abilities and line manager. Line managers should use this set of expectations to develop fair and unique professional relationships with each of their staff members. HR managers should develop empowerment-supporting policies and procedures
