Economics of data: digital ecosystems, algorithms, and AI

Economie de la donnée: Ecosystèmes numériques, algorithmes et intelligence artificielle

Frédéric Marty

Post-Print from HAL

Abstract: Access to massive, renewed, and diversified data streams is one of the keys to firms' performance, in that it feeds into the training of their algorithms. Data companies can potentially achieve significant dominance and extend their activities into related sectors, forming digital ecosystems. The example of banking and insurance markers illustrates the potential associated with such a convergence, in terms of efficiency but also of inclusion linked to the possibilities of quasi-personalisation of offers, but also the risks that may result both for competition and for consumers. Therefore, we aim at illustrating the potential gains and risks and consider the scope of the remedies offered by the competition rules in this area.
