Abstract:
The article describes the evolution in Spain of the different types of temporary employment contracts and their modifications by each of the labour reforms after the approval of the Workers' Statute in 1980, as well as the contribution of each type of contract to a very high rate of temporary employment, also and especially among women working in the public sector. The following is a description of the changes in the causes that allow for temporary contracts in Royal Decree Law 32/2021, the new types of contracts, the potential of each of them not only to reduce temporary employment but also to provide employment stability, as well as the margins that still remain to escape from indefinite contracts. The contribution of the increased penalties for very short-term contracts and the new sanctioning regime to the reduction of seasonality is appreciated.
