Abstract: Thomas Aquinas's economic thought is articulated around the notion of exchange. Production, and its financing, therefore seems to take second place, especially since in none of his writings does he deal with it in a direct and systematic way. However, a synoptic reading of Aquinas's economic texts allows us to identify a broad and innovative vision of production, on which it aims to make supply possible and, since it is ordered to exchange, is first of all a production of services, even before it is a production of goods. His financial approach is primarily ex post, through the revenue generated by sales. Ex ante financing is also provided for, although the prohibition on borrowing for production limits its scope.
