Abstract:
The objective of this article is to deepen understanding of remote workers in mountain regions to better attract and retain them there. Our qualitative research methodology is based on 19 semi-structured interviews, 5 participant and 19 non-participant observations, and an in-depth documentary analysis. Our findings highlight the characteristics and needs of remote workers in mountain regions, including the importance of remote workers' past experience with the region, the role of certain initiatives such as coworking spaces in attracting and retaining remote workers, and the specific case of dual-career couples. These results are discussed in the context of a comprehensive policy to attract and retain remote workers, and more broadly, to manage talent at the regional level.
