Abstract:
INSEE provides monthly national data on the French economy. But they are only the average of very varied situations according to urban areas, with, for example, unemployment levels ranging from single to triple, 7% or less in Rodez or Cluses, and more than 22% in Maubeuge, Sète, Valenciennes or Alès. The analysis considers four significant criteria of economic dynamism to compare, for the intercensal period 1990-1999, the 137 urban areas of metropolitan France with more than 50,000 inhabitants.
