Abstract: The office was originally located within the company. It then became collective, shared, then mobile, based within the home of employees as a result of the development of telework, or in other places used temporarily (third places or coworking spaces). HRM research has studied the effects linked to each space separately. In this article, we explore the issues associated with the distribution of workspaces and the combination of these different locations by drawing on twenty semi-structured interviews with employees whose work is carried out in several workspaces. Our results show that the distribution of workspaces helps maintain a social connection but is also dictated by the nature of the activities and the desire to be effective. In a context where hybrid work could become entrenched in organizations, the article identifies HRM practices and policies that could help to organize workspace distribution and manage the workers concerned.
