Abstract:
Many studies on employee engagement (EE) consider only the static dimension of the notion. By introducing the concept of sustainable employee engagement (SEE), we have added a temporal dimension to EE to demonstrate that engagement is, first, a continuous process. More specifically, our study focuses on SEE systems. We sought to find out how they can meet the challenges of organizations and how they can stimulate a sustainable dynamic of engagement in companies. Through semi-directive interviews, we launched a study with ten companies that have already matured the subject of employee engagement within various sectors. The results show that SEE is a concrete subject and that it must be developed according to the specific characteristics of the organizations, it is not limited to QWL and well-being at work actions and it is a cross-cutting subject that encompasses all the stakeholders of the company. These reflections have allowed us to discuss and propose (i) a typology of SSE systems, (ii) the levers for its creation, (iii) the questions to ask to implement it and (iv) an action guide that can be extrapolated to many organizations.
