Middle class and Labour Market: some complementary analysis

Classes moyennes et marché du travail: quelques analyses complémentaires

Pierre Courtioux

Working Papers from HAL

Abstract: This article supplements the results presented in the chapter "Ce que le marché du travail fait au classes moyennes" (Courtioux, 2023), published in the collective work "Que sait-ton du travail? The proposed additions aim to promote the reproducibility of the results by pointing more explicitly to the methods and data used. They also aim to provide a more complete set of relatively homogeneous statistics on the links between middle income classes and the labour market over the period 1996-2020. Within this framework, the share of the middle class in the population and that of its various components are presented. The article also presents the distribution of individuals in employment according to their occupation and professional category (PCS) across income classes. The article also details the characteristics of the jobs held (fixed-term contracts, part-time work and involuntary part-time work) according to the income class of the individuals in employment. Finally, the article presents the geographical distribution (size of urban unit) of individuals according to their income classes.
