Abstract:
Sensemaking is at the heart of organizational theory. We will use the sensemaking model of Weick (2005) to make sense of the se-quence of events created by an unfortunate work accident that took place in a multinational company in Mexico. An auto-ethnographic narrative describes the feelings of a foreign manager during the different steps of the experience. The reflexive method allows the dismantling of the construction of meaning in an organizational context. As experi-ence is more about meaning than about experience itself (Nadeau-Lacour, 2000), the author shows how individual subjectivities are imprinted in the interpretation of a non-parameterized experience. The author associates her disengage-ment with a managerial problem elicited by ambiguous communi-cation with upper management, which highlights the fragility of the cultural cement of the organi-zation.
