Abstract:
Transportation is a strategic sector for the economic and social development of nations. On the other hand, it is considered to be an energy-intensive sector with negative effects on the environment. In this context, controlling demand for fossil fuels and reducing greenhouse gas emissions are the main objectives of energy policies. This study, dedicated to Algeria, aims to analyze the contribution of its energy strategy to improving energy efficiency in the transportation sector. Using indicators of energy intensity, quantity effect and energy consumption effect in the sector, it was concluded that, following the example of emerging countries, Algeria has achieved a reduction in the energy intensity of the transport sector, but this is limited by the characteristics of the national vehicle fleet, which are unfavorable to energy saving.
